High School: A Month in Review

oLd fRiEnDs, NeW fRiEnDs

I have made many new friends here at Stevenson. I am so happy that I did the swim team. I met probably 83.5% of my friends there. In all of my classes I have met new people. Two of my closest friends are Bekah Hagewood and Sarah Fier. Of course I met them at swim. Our swim practices are at 4:30 so we normally stay after and walk to places like the gas station with Subway attached, or we go to Panera. We all dressed the same for Super Spunky Spartan Friday. And on Wednesday for Wild Wild West day we all bought plaid shirts from Sears. Mine was purple, Sarah's was pink, and Bekah's was blue.

I like to participate in events that happen at Stevenson High School. So far I have attended events like swim meets, football games, Night on the Field, the Freshman Dance, the Welcome back Dance, Pep Assembly, the Homecoming game, and most importantly, HOMECOMING! But tonight, October 28, 2008, I will be going to the Global Ed. movie.

My scariest moment definitely happened on the first day of school. I couldn't find my class. It was me and another girl. We had to ask a teacher. It was just terrible.

By far my easiest class is Foods and Nutrition. All we have to do is bake and watch Good Eats. Although on one assignment I did get an eighty percent because I didn't clean off the table. My easiest assignment would have to be in Spanish. I learned all the stuff last year, and the assignment was to say Hola to everyone.

Some current events would be balloon boy. Another would be the pilots that flew for an extra ninety minutes after they were supposed to land. They were on their laptops and it was messing with the connection so they got their licenses taken away. Another is that pirates captured a couple off the coast of Africa, on their way to Tanzania. One funny one is that Barack Obama got the Noble Peace Prize. And last but not least is that scientists found a female skeleton that is about 4.4 million years old. They call her Ardi.

FaCeS iN tHe NeWs

Some people in the news are John Roberts, Hillary Clinton, Benjamin Netenyahu, and Ban Ki-Moon. John was in the news because he is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and they just started the new session. Hillary is in the news because she is the Secretary of State. Benjamin has been in the news lately because he is the President of Israel. Lastly, Ban because he is the Secretary General.

My favorite new word is vehemence. Sarah, Shaelyn and I all use that word whenever we talk about swimming! Another great word is loquacious, it means talkative. And the funny thing is when I wrote that word in the computer, Microsoft didn't recognize it!

PoPuLaR oR mEmOrAbLe SoNgS

One Time by Justin Bieber, Love Game by Lady GaGa, and Love Story by Taylor Swift are the most overplayed song of my generation! Michael Jackson is, in my opinion, only famous because he died!

PoPuLaR Or MeMoRaBlE mOvIeS
New Moon is going to be the biggest thing that ever happened to me! I have a creepy obsession with Taylor Lautner! Another big movie at my old school was Baby Mama.

RuMoRs Or GoSsIp

There was a terrible rumor going around that Taylor Lautner was not going to be Jacob Black is New Moon because he had too much of a baby face. So he went to the gym everyday and gained 30 pounds of muscle and got the part! Another rumor is that the Livonia Mall is going to be just like Wonderland Mall. I hope that it turns into a mall like Twelve Oaks!

One of the biggest trends is skinny jeans and anything neon. Also I think that animal prints are in, like zebra and giraffe. A trend is those farmer shirts that are plaid.

FiRsT CUlTuRaL eVeNt

My first cultural event was to the Henry Ford Museum. My favorite part was by the Oscar Meyer Wiener there was a hot dog bun that was like a cushioned bench. It has pillows shaped like mustard, ketchup, onions, and relish. It was so cool. I also saw all of the presidents' cars that belonged to them!

HoMeCoMiNg

Homecoming was absolutely amazing! It was crazy! Everyone looked so pretty or handsome! I went over to my friend Shaelyn's house then we went to Applebee's. It was so fun and I can't wait until next years!

AdViCe FoR fReShMeN

My advice for freshmen is to not be a dork. Don't walk around with your map on the first day because people will laugh at you. Don't sit by yourself at lunch. Another thing is that the South Cafeteria has better food. And you want to be in a sport or club or anything. Be in Global Education! Your first semester you want to take at least one easy class so you don't have too much homework and you can relax and get used to Stevenson High School. And finally, go to the dances!

wHaT i'M lOoKiNg FoRwArD tO

I'm looking forward to Homecoming next year! I can't wait to drive to school in my used car with a different color roof and a different color door, with a rusted roof. I can't wait until the banquet for swimming when I get my Varsity Letter. And I really can't wait for swim team next year! And I can't wait to graduate!

Culture♥

AMERICAN CULTURE
American culture is very diverse. Most people live where everyone is the same ethnicity or practice the same religion. Here in America we have a variety of religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. You name it, we have it. Another thing we have that differently is the type of music we listen to. Some styles people might listen to are rap, country, rock ‘n’ roll, religious and alternative. Americans are also defined by the movies we watch, books we read, TV we watch, games we play and our manners. To me, Americans are normal, but I wonder what other countries think.
MY CULTURE
I define my culture as Polish-American and Roman Catholic. My mom is 100% Polish and so are her brothers. Like them, I was raised into a Roman Catholic family. Two of the main holidays I celebrate as a Christian are Christmas and Easter. Every year on Christmas Eve we go to mass to honor Jesus. After my family and I go to my grandmas and we share the Optlak. The Optlak is a blessed wafer symbolizing strong family ties. To join in this celebration, you simply have to break a larger wafer into smaller pieces and share the wafer with your loved ones. When you go up to them you wish them a Merry Christmas and give them a kiss or a hug. Another way to define my culture is by art. We have Polish pottery all around my house. My favorite is a plate we have above our fire place. It has pretty designs in white and blue colors. My family and I watch my cousin, Lydia, participate in Polish dance. One time she got to dance with her class before a Tiger’s game! I celebrate Christmas but others in America also celebrate Ramadan, Hanukkah, and many other holidays. Even though our cultures seem different they have one main thing in common, we all believe in strong family values.
